The CMMB Research Ethics Committee
The committee is composed of academic members appointed in accordance with RECoPP §3.0, with administrative support provided by the committee secretary.
Terms of Reference
CMMBrec operates under the University of Malta's Research Ethics Review Procedures and Research Code of Practice. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing REDP submissions from CMMB researchers and students
- Determining whether submissions require full FREC review or records-only acknowledgement
- Approving, returning, or referring submissions to UREC-DP where special categories of personal data are involved
- Providing a response to Researchers within 30 working days of receipt of an application
- Ensuring compliance with GDPR, the Data Protection Act (Cap. 586), and UM research policies
Reviewing Applications
Applications shall be assessed by a minimum of two CMMBrec members and the chairperson or their delegate. (Research Ethics Review Procedures §4.1)
Conflict of Interest
A member of CMMBrec may not participate in a review of research in which the member has a conflicting interest (including being the supervisor of the research), except to provide information. (Research Ethics Review Procedures §4.1)
