CMMBrec Members & Terms of Reference

Terms of Reference

CMMBrec operates under the University of Malta's Research Ethics Review Procedures and Research Code of Practice. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing REDP submissions from CMMB researchers and students
  • Determining whether submissions require full FREC review or records-only acknowledgement
  • Approving, returning, or referring submissions to UREC-DP where special categories of personal data are involved
  • Providing a response to Researchers within 30 working days of receipt of an application
  • Ensuring compliance with GDPR, the Data Protection Act (Cap. 586), and UM research policies

Reviewing Applications

Applications shall be assessed by a minimum of two CMMBrec members and the chairperson or their delegate. (Research Ethics Review Procedures §4.1)

Conflict of Interest

A member of CMMBrec may not participate in a review of research in which the member has a conflicting interest (including being the supervisor of the research), except to provide information. (Research Ethics Review Procedures §4.1)
