Welcome to CMMBrec

The Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking Research Ethics Committee (CMMBrec) is responsible for reviewing research ethics submissions from the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking (CMMB) at the University of Malta.

All research involving human participants, human-derived data, or live animals conducted under the auspices of the CMMB must be reviewed and approved by CMMBrec in accordance with the University of Malta's Research Ethics Code of Practice and Procedures (RECoPP).

ℹ️
Submission deadlines - Applications must be submitted at least 10 working days before the scheduled meeting date to be included on the agenda. See the Meeting Schedule for current dates.

Do I need FREC review?

Your REDP submission requires full FREC review if your research involves any of the following:

👤 Human participants

Direct data collection from people - surveys, interviews, blood samples, questionnaires

🧬 Human-derived data

Unpublished secondary data from patients or participants, including omics/clinical data

🐭 Live animals

Research involving live vertebrates or cephalopods (mice, rats, zebrafish, etc.)

🧫 Commercial cell lines only

No FREC review needed - in vitro work with established commercial cell lines

💻 Computational / public data

No FREC review needed - purely bioinformatics or truly public/anonymised datasets
